Global cyber security games coming to India and Mena

GLOBAL CYBER SECURITY
Local editions of the global event will be hosted new York  University Abu Dhabi and the Indian institute of Technology Kanpur

The new York University Tandon School of Engineering has announced the participation of NYU Abu Dhabi and the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur as part of the cybersecurity Awareness Week (CSAW).
Founded 13 years ago the global student run cyber security events pits student from high school to doctoral programmes against each other in a series of games challenging their expertise in information technology security.





Slated to run this year from the 10-20 November 2016 the cybersecurity game were originally founded by professor Nasir Memon, chairman of the NYU Tandon Department of Computer Science and Engineering .

Commenting on the annual event professor Memon said Data security is a critical global issue. Attackers know no national boundaries and neither should those who protect our personal privacy and institution .

We are pleased that IIT Kanpur a world leading engineering school recognised the ability of CSAW to engage and educate information security student and decided to introduce the contests to students throughout India. I am equally  excited about the role that NYU Abu  dhabi will play this year.


In the past CSAW brought high school reams to new York. This year, thanks to the leadership of students and faculty, it will expand its reach to  high school and university students across the Middle East and North Africa, he added .

Last year's games saw the participation of over 20,000 students from across the world. For the fist time the event will now be open to students from India, Middle East and North Africa.

Participating students who make it to the qualifying rounds will earn travel  awards to attend the finals, which are set to be held on 12 November 2016 at IIT Kanpur NYU Abu Dhabi and NYU Tandon. Winners of the final round can expect to be awarded with cash prizes and scholarships.


GAME

The CSAW event serves as influential platform supporting recruiting efforts for the global IT security market which will reportedly demand over 1.5 million cyber security  professionals by 2020.
Manindra Agrawal, the n. Rama Rao professor in the IIT Kanpur Department of Computer Science and Engineering added "With hobby hackers foreign state actors terrorist organisations and other adversaries abounding cyber security is not just a computer science issue but a national security issue.

IIT Kanpur is delighted to join hands with the new York University Tandon School of Engineering to bring the cyber security awareness competitions to India.
We hope that Indain institutes and universities will participate in large numbers and show their competitiveness against the teams from all over the world.
