SPECIAL WRANGLER CAR

1968 LOTUS 60

Ever the trailblazer, for 1968's
Indianapolis 500 race Colin
Chapman entered his new Lotus
60 racing car powered by a pratt
& Whitney turbine engine and to boot,
featuring all wheel drive. Sadly the
car is also remembered for never
winning anything.

1954 FIAT TURBINA

Like Chrysler's Turbine Car,which used a
Detroit-designed power plant specific the
car, fiat's Turbina didn't exactly come with
a plane engine but it did use jet principles for
its did use jet principles for its triple burner
bhp turbine engine which produced around
200bhp, or about the same as a period Farrari.

1939 MERCEDES-BENZ T80

Undoubtedly the craziest thing ever created by Mercedes-
Benz, the six-wheeled, mid-engined T80 was designed by
the genius mind of rather insanely projected it do 750kph
on a piece of public German highway using its 44.5-litreaero V12

1968 HOWMENT TX

The TX stood for Turbine eXperimental, and this
American racing prototype used a continental aero
engine, which was initially developed for a military
helicopter. It proved notoriously unreliable but on
the occasion a TX did finish a race it usually scored well.

1948 TUCKER TORPEDO

The innovative Tucker really shook up the Big
Three in the late Forties to the extent that,
conspiracy theorists would have you believe,
GM and co sabotaged its production, So only
51 were ever built and the car famously used an
air cooled Franklin aircraft engine mounted in
the rear.
